Sixty percent of Brazil’s ethanol production is allocated in sugarcane production, what reinforces the research importance in this area. The podcast bellow brings an exclusive interview with Henrique Coutinho Junqueira Franco, coordinator of the Biomass Sugarcane Production Research Division of CTBE. Franco researches management of soil fertility, development of special fertilizers using waste from sugarcane industry and precise agriculture techniques on sugarcane farming system associated with low impact mechanization.
The interview deals with subjects such as the impact factors on sugarcane productivity, especially the traffic control of harvesting machines. For Franco, the fall in Brazilian productivity in the last ten years is due to mainly the soil compaction caused by the agriculture mechanization expansion.
