The Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory (CTBE) is one of the main institutions in Brazil that develop research and new technologies in ethanol production area. One of the main focuses of the CTBE studies is to promote sustainable development and contribute to maintain Brazilian leadership in the worldwide biofuel production.

In this video produced by the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) is shown the CTBE research actions and infrastructure, especially regarding to the second generation ethanol production. This ongoing technology makes better use of the raw material (sugarcane bagasse and straw) and allows an increased ethanol production up to 50% without increase the cane planted area.
